Overview

Computer Graphics is a dynamic and hands-on course designed to introduce high school students to the exciting world of digital design and visual communication.

In this Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, students will explore fundamental principles and practical skills in computer graphics using Adobe products and readily available devices like cell phones.

Through a series of engaging lessons, activities, and projects, students will develop proficiency in graphic design, digital imaging, vector illustration, 2D animation, and motion graphics.

Lesson 1: What is Computer Graphics? 

  • Discuss the importance of computer graphics in various industries. 
  • Introduce basic terminology (pixels, resolution, vector vs. raster graphics). 
  • Demonstrate the role of Adobe products in computer graphics. 

 

Lesson 2: Graphic Design Fundamentals 

  • Principles of design (balance, contrast, alignment, proximity). 
  • In-class demonstrations and hands-on practice with Adobe Photoshop. 

 

Lesson 3: Color Theory  

  • Explore the psychology of colors. 
  • Introduce Adobe Color Wheel and its application.

  • Cover photography basics (composition, lighting, angles).

Lesson 8: Adobe Illustrator Basics 

  • Introduction to vector graphics and Illustrator interface.

Lesson 9: Advanced Illustrator Techniques 

  • Explore vector tracing and typography. 
  • Explore graphic design and computer graphics trends. 

Lesson 10: Introduction to Adobe Animate (formerly Flash) 

  • Basics of animation principles. 
  • In-class demonstrations and hands-on practice with Adobe products. 

 

Lesson 11: Intermediate Motion Graphics 

  • Introduce motion graphics and special effects. 

Lesson 12: Final Project

  • Students work on a final project that showcases their skills. 
  • Group projects and collaborations. 
  • Presentations and peer feedback sessions. 
  • Assess the final project based on creativity, technical proficiency, and adherence to design principles.
