This year I had the greatest time in both of my student teaching classes. This class was a community based class where we went to a local high school and taught a community based lesson. Our co-operating teacher Mrs. Koberlein was amazing, she allowed us to basically take over her entire class for about two months ans we taught 3 lessons, and made ceramic bowls for our fundraiser project; Empty Bowls 2016.
If you do not know, Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to raise both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger. This project represents what we do best—develop creative, exciting, and powerful models that are replicable and scalable by others wishing to work for social justice.
This year we had the pleasure to work alongside students at Clearview Regional High School in Mullica Hill, NJ. Below I have in PDFs our lesson plans and PowerPoints that where used to make the students aware of the hunger issue that plagues our nation by bringing them closer to the problem; Camden, NJ. Camden NJ is about twenty minutes from most of our homes and is one of the nations poorest cities. Our job was to create as many ceramic bowls possible so we could sell them for $10 each. Each bowl on the exhibition night will be filled with soup, and bread will be given out.
