Color: Plan and Research

The Projects

In your sketchbook, start planning your artwork for this unit.

Use only 1 page for the entire planning process. I want to see thumbnail drawings, color palette ( if there is color), details written, arrows if needed to indicate important things. maybe even glue in photos, write down google search terms, anything and everything you needed to research and plan the project you chose. You should use up the entire page!

You cannot change once you start. Pay attention to the demonstrations. You ONLY need to choose ONE Project!

GRAFFITI

Create your own signature and symbols. Remember your name is your legacy. https://www.graffiticreator.net/ or https://graffwriter.com

  1. Read through the graffiti packet, choose a style of lettering.
  2. You MUST create within your sketchbook your own representation of their name (signature) and any symbols they would like to incorporate in the graffiti style of their choice.
  3. You composition MUST be centered. Count the number of letter and start from the inside out to make sure letters fit on the page before beginning.
  4. MUST show lettering practice thumbnails and at least 2 symbols on Artwork Planning Page.
  5. You will be graded on readability and value within your letters.
  6. And you MUST have a background.

You can use frisket to protect letters if you choose.

You can use black acrylic or black marker for shadows if needed.

COLOR SCHEME

You have complete freedom over what you would like to paint, however, your piece MUST incorporate a monochromatic color scheme.

  1. What picture would I like to recreate? It must be a living person, place or thing. It can also be cartoons and anime.
  2. You MUST create within your sketchbook the idea and color pallet either in marker or colored pencil.
  3. You MUST use the grid method
  4. Cut the photo down to a 4"x6" or a 5"x7".
  5. You will need a copy of your photo you can draw on, color or b/w. You MUST tape your image to your Artwork Planning Page.
  6. You MUST create a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio drawing. You DO NOT need to use grids, but proportion will count, so if you cannot do proportion correctly I suggest using some grids.
  7. You MUST show the value sections like we did previously in pencils, lights and dark's.
  8. Each section MUST have a different value within that color.

BEYOND THE BORDER - This piece explores the expansion of the main subject matter.

  1. You MUST create within your sketchbook the idea and color pallet either in marker or colored pencil.
  2. The main subject MUST remain in color, but everything outside of the main rectangle stays black & white.
  3. You MUST have a center rectangle in FULL color.
  4. Outside the rectangle MUST remain black on white paper only.

The placement of the focal point is important in this project.

JESSICA JANIK - Create your silhouette, and watercolor a scene inside the silhouette.

  1. Create a silhouette.
  2. Cut it out, tape it to your paper.
  3. Trace around it
  4. Then, frisket around the area.
  5. Paint inside the piece only.
