Beginning of the Year Management Plan

  1. Classroom Expectations
    1. Identify approximately 4-5 possible classroom rules.
      1. A=Act Responsible (Make Good Choices)
      2. R=Respectful (To yourself, others and supplies)
      3. T=Try your best, think ART Smart
      4. I=Imagine and be Creative
      5. S=Stay on task
      6. T=Talk quietly

  1. Include ways you will encourage success as well as a 3-step remediation plan.
    1. The key to student’s success depends on how they are motivated to do each project given. I will ensure that each project starts with proper motivation, modern and historical perspectives, as well as showing the students how each project can be used in real life situations. Technology, marketing, and advertising will be a key factor. When students fail to be successful than an alternate route will be taken on an as need basis. Proper time will given to clean up the classroom at the end of each activity.
  2. Describe the procedure for creating and/or disseminating your expectations with students.
    1. Since this is middle school and not elementary level. One poster will be kept behind the teacher’s desk showing the rules of the classroom. (See attached poster)
  3. Write a procedure for following so each will become a routine
    1. Entering the classroom: When entering the classroom students will automatically place their school books on designated shelves available to them. Their classroom drawers will have their folders. Students will be encouraged to just go get the necessary items for the project on hand and begin. If we are beginning a new lesson students will just sit at their desks until the class starts.
    2. Leaving the classroom: Students will be taught to respect the other teachers who are teaching down the hallway, and that they must enter or leave with a pass to the appropriate area they are going or coming from. Students will be allotted 5m bathroom breaks; any student who disregards this will not be allowed to leave the next time around.
    3. Transitioning between activities: Transitioning between activities should be done in quite manner. All students will be encouraged to quickly clean up all messes made from the prior activity before taking out anything new for the next activity.
    4. Strategies for getting students’ attention: When students are unruly the lights may be turned off.
    5. Turning in homework or class work during the day: A bin will be readily available for all students to hand in work at any time. They will be encourage to write their name, grade, and section on each piece of work.
    6. Set-up and clean-up: Students will be given sufficient time in order to clean up their surrounding areas and put away any necessary items they have been using for the activity.
  4. Write a plan for incorporating at least four of the seven Learning Community Member Propensities in your first week’s activities and lesson strategies.
    1. Identify Common Needs and Purposes: Students will be placed at large desks where many students can sit and assist each other. This will allow them to help each other when needed.
    2. Seeing Peers as Colleagues: Students artwork will be displayed around the classroom so that all grade levels will be able to see what is in store for them. Student’s artwork will also be displayed around the school when available. This will act as a motivation, especially if a student’s wants to have his/her/s own artwork displayed.
    3. Helping or Being Helped: As the tables are already grouped, this will allow students who are struggling to ask their classmates for help. Students who are done first will be encouraged to help those still working on their project. In addition, the ones who are still working might be motivated to finish quicker.
    4. Celebrating Accomplishments: Each project will be critiqued and celebrated. Each student will begin to learn how to create art and how to change or work a project. As an extra credit, students will be encouraged to take one project from the entire semester and rework it according to its critique. Always say the good in the artwork before explaining what you would do differently. Since art is a matter of expression, explaining what is being used or has been used is more appropriate than right or wrong.

    2. Description and Why: I chose this layout because it offers the best options for students to spread out and work.
    3. Student Movement: Students are allowed to get up to get supplies when needed, however if they will be watched. If I see they are getting out of hand or walking around excessively without accomplishing a goal, they will be reminded to get back to work.
  7. Draw and describe one bulletin board that you might have in your classroom when your students arrive.
    1. One lesson I will be doing in the course of the year is “Skateboard Design” The Bulletin Board will look something like this, but will also have the beginning phases of the project as well. This will let the students see how they will get to the finished project.
